Both contradictory statements. :R Obviously if you expect to adjust the thermo settings you want to see what you're doing so a back lit screen is invaluable. Likewise obvious, why replace any thermo unless the replacement is going to offer accurate control of furnace operation?
Is this really so difficult? You want a thermo that will easily accomplish everything you've asked for, several of us who use one have recommended the Honeywell RTH5100B which is readily available here in Canada, so what's the issue? Buy it, install it, and be done with it. :p
