A search of the net reveals a number of cases of tickets being tossed and even lawsuits against cities and police based on personal dashcam video. Dashcams are heavily used in many other countries. In the USA they are becoming popular with professional (truck) drivers and concealed carry permit holders.
I bought mine primarily as a gadget to play with but with the idea that it may prove valuable. I think we are at the beginning of a trend that will have many USA drivers using dashcams.
I have also seen things that I wish I had on video like the time two bear cubs rolled down a hill into the road directly in front of us. We had no choice but to stop and watch them until they decided to move off the road. Wouldn't that make a great video?
