I think you can lay to rest about the loose fit of the G1W loose usb ports. My newer model usb port is tight and snug.
Even after a full charge, the built in battery does not last long. 5-10 mins for me. Long enough to power down the unit gracefully after the cig. lighter port turns off.
My power port was tight too.
The suction cup mount I did wrap a zip tie around the mount where it allows the unit to rotate, and I put a single layer of tape on the mount where it slides onto the camera to tighten that up.
My cig lighter comes on when the ignition is on, but turns of during cranking. With my DVR-207 it was no problem - it would still record when this momentary outtage occurred. Twice I've had the G1W turn off and stay off when the engine was cranking, and it wasn't cranking for very long - just a few seconds. Now I turn the ignition on, wait 10-15 seconds, then crank the engine.
