A recommended dash cam brand/model?

Class 10 32GB works okay in my DVR-207. It cost me almost as much as the dashcam.

I think you are right but I have used 4,16 and 32 GB cards in all the different Dash Cams that I have.

The ones that are class 4 and 6 worked flawlessly but the Class 10 ones that I used would not work.

On 5 min. and 10 min. loops they would record 2 or 3 min. then start over then record 2 seconds then back to 2 to 3 min. and show " memory fault" this happened in 3 different cameras and with 2 different 32gb class 10 micro Sandisk cards.

So now I only use the Class 4 or 6 in 16 or 32mb micro cards with no problems. THIS is the last one I got and it works flawlessly and gets a little more than 2 and a half hours of very clear video in 5 min loops on my G1W. I have to agree with all the good reviews on the G1W it is the best one that I have.

Maybe someone that is more savy on these things can explain why class 10's wont work but class 4 and 6 do in this application.

get the 'fastest' one
they are rated by class/speed, class 2, 4, 6 etc..
the better ones cost more
when recording video response/operation speed is important

I believe I have settled on the G1W dash cam after reading the professional reviews and ratings.
However, What 32mb micro SD card should one look for. Are there differences or just get the best bang for the buck?
Any comments on the G1W? $52 on ebay

My DVR-207 did something strange the other night. It was working normally and I shut the car off and went into a store. When I came out I heard a faint but high pitch whine or squeal.

The dashcam was froze and not functioning. I disconnected the power cord and pulled the internal battery. The whine stopped immediately.

After installing the battery and power cord it rebooted and is functioning normally again.

Drats. My DVR-207 discussed above simply died last night.

I was 100% happy with it subject to the concern I raised in the preceding post, but we'll see what happens.

I contacted the Chinese E-bay seller to see what I can do...

Will advise.

EDIT: I removed the battery (again) and put it back in with some extra "oomph." Mysteriously, now working????

My new dashcam arrived from China last Thursday (9-12-13).

I spent some time playing with it and installing it on Saturday. It works great and I am happy with its performance.

Based on your posts, I just ordered one from same source. :B

I've now had mine for some six weeks. Easy to set up and install. Works fine! Drove 10 hours to INDY and back from DC. Works just fine.

I am, however, investigating a possible issue. For a couple of years I have had a Radar Detector and a Garmin GPS plugged into the Cigarette Adapter in my car. I have now added the DVR-207 to the same power source.

Now when I shut the car off overnight, upon starting in the AM my GPS takes a few miles of driving in order to acquire the Sats. (Previously it required zero time to acquire.) It seems that if I unplug either the GPS or the DVR-207 for the night, this does not occur.

It almost seems if the DVR-207 is continuing to draw power from the GPS during the time thye lighter is switched off???

I know, sounds whacky! I'll continue to experiment and see what happens.

Anyone else heard of such a thing?

Maybe you got a fake. The dashcam forums and reviewers warn that there are a lot of fakes on the market because it is totally unregulated.

It has a large 2.7 in wide, easy to read screen and is easy to work. The Videos are of good quality, you can read street signs and license plates and the night vision is very good. My videos look better than those seen in the review.

Interesting this thread came back up again. I have to say I wish I had installed one of these cams, as I had posted earlier in this thread. Because, I would have had footage of the significant motorcycle accident I was in on 09/09. With a number of broken bones and a destroyed BMW GSA later, it is something I will do (dashcam) with the new GSA, that arrived today. Nope, not ready to give up motorcycles, just yet. Just a firm believer of a good Helmet and quality riding gear. Sweat is easier to wash off than blood.
