About long-term storage of Honda eu2000i

I'll be storing my generator for a few months, so here's my idea: I'm going to siphon all the gas I can get out of it, then run it dry. At this point I was going to run a little of that ethanol-free gas you buy in a can for chainsaws, trimmers, etc. Then I remembered that it's premixed 50:1. Would that hurt or help with storage? Or should I just leave the genny dry?

  • I would either run it dry or leave it full and then drain the carb.
Leaving a little fuel in it is worse than leaving it full.
  • I don't run any gas through it that doesn't have stabil (or sea foam...but usually i go with stabil) through the honda.

At storage time I just drain the carb and don't worry about draining the (treated) fuel from the main tank. Not a single problem in 5 years. and in that time there have been a couple of occasions where I needed to fire that thing up and having fuel already in it was helpful.

That's what I have done for years. My gens sit for 6 or months at a time and start right up every time after putting fresh gas in them
  • Run it completely dry of gas. Have a 25+ year old Honda genset that starts on the first pull every time. Never store a small engine more then a month or two with gas in it. Your carburetor will thank you.

  • Try to find some 100% gas (10% ethanol will do) and add Seafoam to it. Run the gen for a while then shut it off. Turn the fuel switch off then store the gen. It should be good for a couple of months at least.
  • Hey Dam,

Did you get the book with it?
All the Honda stuff has very explicit and complete storage instructions.

  • No manual? Probably not a great idea to put 2 cycle gas in a 4-cycle engine.
