soft start yes microair no. the miroair starts the fan first, then cuts in the compressor. That reduces the surge, after the five "set up" starts.
For the autoformer that lowered the inrush to the point where it no longer cut in, leaving me with a lower voltage that I would prefer. I found a work around by adjusting the cut in voltage on the autoformer. Before the microair was installed (horrible directions btw), the autoformer would cut in extremely quickly in well under one second. After I had to fiddle and fart around to find a more correct setting.
The load assist on the Magnum also has some type of autoformer--and that has no user available settings to adjust it. There is a way to "force" the Magnum to work--but that caused my first Magnum to catch on fire. The only viable option is to shut the load support off.
So, for me, the microair was a waste of funds.
