Any simple vom will have a 'clicker' or some kind of knob to set the meter to read ac voltage in the range of 0-150, something like that. Did your meter come with a manual? The 120v reading in the cover only means that it's a 120v appliance.
We need that number. And it pays to get real familiar with your VOM. You'll need it, more than just today.
