I have seen this issue before. You'll need to "re-engineer" the divider to keep it in place.
Without seeing it I'm guessing but, cut you some 3/4 angle or 3/4 x 3/4 wood material the length of the roof thickness and screw it to either side of the opening. Clean it good and seal all the cracks with aluminium duck tape.
It's a simple fix but you may need to remove the AC to get at it.
