AC on 20a service?

Hello

Just have a question about running a 13.5k AC on a standard 20a/110v power cord.
The DW's mom has to go in for a major operation and we will be taking the TT, mostly because of the pets. Her mom has a setup for the trailer as they used to do a lot of camping in past years. However, we're probably going to be there a couple weeks and they only have a standard 20a/110v service setup. I'm fairly sure we are going to need the AC while we're there. I was wondering if I can run the AC on this or do I need to hookup the genny.

Thanks
Keith
  • and if the cord gets so hot you can't hold it for a few seconds then you have a too small of a cord to handle the load and you can burn up that cord and the TT if not careful.
  • Ditto the above posts. Also install a voltmeter inside the RV. If it reads or dips below 105, don't run the air conditioner. Either a hardwired or plug-in voltemter is ok.
  • No problem at all. Run your fridge and water heater on propane. We routinely run ours on 15 amp when in a certain location. Just do a little power management. Follow boboos suggestions reference the cords.

    Happy trails.
  • If no other power hogs are running and you are not using a long, skinny extension cord, you should be good to go. Be sure the water heater and refrigerator are on propane. Keep the extension cord SHORT and HEAVY GAUGE, 10g is ideal, 12g is the minimum I recommend.
