a/c thermostat

1997 Damon Ultrasport, 36'. A year or so ago, one of my two HVAC thermostats failed on the road and I had a mechanic come out, diagnose and replace it. He advised me at the time to not use the "automatic" feature, it caused the thermostats to fail early. Since then, I have been leaving the fan in the "on" position all of the time, while the compressor, does cycle. I have recently wondered if what I was told was accurate or just one of those things people hear and stick with. Seems kind of wasteful to have the fans running all of the time, but if there is a good reason for it, will continue to do so.

  • Thanks, I was starting to feel that way, thanks for the input.
  • All Auto does, is, it turns the Fan OFF when temp is reached. Your HOME has the same type Tstat, Doug
  • You do not need to leave your stat on "on" the auto is there for a reason. Stats fail. Some last longer than others. Leaving it on will not extend the life in fact the fan motor will die faster.
