Don't know about meters etc. I have one on order that has a shunt so I expect to learn how to wire it up. Make it external though.
Beware of taking the lid off the adjustable model to maybe replace the voltmeter with yours. Wires underside of the lid go to the circuit board below from the pot knob and can be pulled off the board. There is hardly enough play in the wires to set the lid down beside the unit. It is difficult to repair when the wires come away. (don't ask) Also the voltmeter wires are very very thin.
If you can resist, just leave the lid on :)
I used a set of jumper cables for my 100 amper, works great. Cut off #2 cu-al with monster 600a parrot clamps. (cut off ends as seen in photo above--had to shave strands till the ends fit in the terminals--proper adapters advised instead.)
