Is there a possibility you are over extending it? The valance (if you have one, if not, the ridge in the awning tube where you put hangers for lights)
should be straight down.
This happened to me and it would not close completely and going down the highway I thought it would literally come off the wall of the RV. Found out I
was extending it too far, which kept it from closing up tightly. No problem since.
On edit... I just read DOOR awning. Might not apply to that situation. Mine was the full awning.
