Adjusting Trailer Brakes

I have a 2010 MOntana 3455SA and the brakes are doing nothing. I slide the lever to emergency and it slows trailer down a little. I was told to adjust the brakes on each hub, however mine has 2 slots right next to each other instead of one. Any instructions on how to do this?
  • I am having same problem and found brakes just worn out. Going to order new ones, but need to know size of brakes to order? Anyone know what size the 2010 3455SA has?
  • Jack up one wheel at a time
Remove the plugs....use one to shine flash light thru use other one the turn 'star wheel' with a brake spoon OR a wide flat screw driver
While rotating wheel turn star wheel until wheel is tight
Then back off star wheel until you can turn wheel.....wheel should free spin 3/4 to full turn with slight drag of shoes

After doing all wheels....need to readjust brake controller.

I would recommend removing the brake hubs and check condition of the brakes. It is also probably time for bearing service.

And if the lining is worn or more likely losing bond to the shoe, it is easier and more cost efficient to get new backer plates complete with new shoes and magnets. About $60 each from etrailer.

  • If you're unsure how to do this, have it done. It is really pretty easy, but if you make them too snug they will over heat and you'll have them fade on you.
  • what brake controller are you using? is it tbc integrated brake controller from ford?
  • Th adj wheel is behind one on the left and the other on the right side of the trailer. Pull off one cover and if the wheel isn't there remove the other.
