GVWR is a combination of springs and axle and tires
tires can be replaced, air lifts or bags can be added, springs can be added or replaced
a genny on the back, will not have to be moved, IF correctly positioned on the carrier, so the only weight to be handled is cans of gas.. two gallon cans make that easy, and you can get 8-9 hours of battery charging (maybe more) from a gallon of gas, 6 gallons placed 3 (2)gal cans, can go on the carrier with the genny
more batteries, will weight just as much (maybe more) than the generator and gas combined
with good weather the solar might extend your stay
but if rains for two days after you reach the campsite, you will be ready to move for recharge before the rain stops
a generator doesn't need the sun
for part timers solar (extends the stay a day or three)
for full timers, solar means NOT running the genny as much, but run it we do,
if you have tools and want power, there is nothing better than a genny
hermits with candles, books, no electronics and no power tools can get by with some solar to keep the meager electric use replenished
but computers, electric freezers, power tools, cell phones, Motors
nothing beats having a genny for backup or primary recharge
i say get both IF you can..but if $$ are tight, buy the genny first and solar later
some will come on here and say i have solar and never run my generator
and they have a large roof, a healthy solar array and a large ampHr battery bank and a fridge on LP, and no power tools
non of which matches your situation
