Use Romex for unenclosed circuits, individual wires when doing it within EMT conduit.
The OP asked about 120vac receptacle installation so I'll stick with it.
If the receptacle is going to be located within 30 twisty-windey feet of the main breaker box 10 gauge is a minimum. I like 8-gauge better. I have with me own eyeballs checked the voltage difference between the two wire sizes and for A/C hot restart with a good converter load, the voltage remains notably higher using #8.
After installation recheck ALL wire connections and re-tighten after 6-months. Let me know if you find any connections that could not use a re-tightening.
