Mexicowanderer, boy you must be an old timer talking about Timken roller bearings and Chicago Rawhide seals changed out many of those.
If a bearing that needs greasing is a bearing that needs to be checked. I've hand packed many of those bearings, grease-turn a little-grease turn a little is the way to go. If you install the two lip seal make sure the seal is turned the right way.
