Beside the cycle, size and brand also matters, otherwise we are comparing apples to oranges. Here is a good study of
AGM vs Flooded vs Gel. They compare the life-cycle costs against the Lifeline/Concorde AGM that are allegedly the best.
Summary: boating/camping 105 days or more a year, the best flooded are at least 15% more expensive to own that Lifeline. Look at the 2nd picture, cost premium over Lifeline.
Lifeline 8D AGM, 12V, 220 AH = 0
Surette HT8DM flooded, 12V, 220 AH = 16%
Surette 12cs11ps, 12V, 360 AH = 20%
Trojan T105 flooded, 6V, equivalent to 112 AH@12V = 19%
WM 8D AGM = 52% (it's West Marine, not Walmart)
WM SV1550 flooded = 55%
This all sounds very biased towards Lifeline, and I don't know whether Herr Wentzel has any affiliations with them. Doesn't sound that he does. I agree with the general idea, though - good brand and big size make difference.
