I was going to give the same answer as above. You have to run both Zone 1 and Zone 2 to get max cooling. At night I often run zone 1 (the front unit) and close all the front vents. This sends all the air to the rear. The reason for this is noise reduction. The zone 2 unit is right over the bed and at night it's much quieter to only have the front unit running.
