Air Conditioner for Class B

I am replacing the air conditioner on my 89 Merry Miler, I bought a 13,500 Coleman and have or had a mechanic waiting to install it. He is telling me that I should have bought a 15,000 BTU. I can return the smaller one if I have to but I was under the impression that too large of a unit is as bad as too small.

I want to do it right the first time, what do you guys think?

We have a 15000 unit on our 31-ft. It cools that big coach well on all but the very hottest of the days. Our 24-ft, a full C, had 13500 and it was more than adequate.
  • my Ascend A171RD TT has a 13,500 AC with 15,000 optional. I would think that has more volume and is harder to keep cool than a B.

  • you did check and see if the roof can handle the unit?? some are pre wired at the vent.
  • I have two 13,500 units in my 39 foot class A. The one in the bed room gets it cold enough to hang meat in there. I would certainly think. It will do fine in a class B
  • I would certainly think a 13,500 would be large enough for any B van. and yes, you can oversize an AC, but primarily in a house since you want it running most of the time to dehumidify, not blast out cold in an on and off fashion.
