Air conditioner

I just bought a new Keystone 5th wheel and am wondering if there might be a problem with my a/c. It is hot where we are and the air run most of the time, but I have noticed that it will shutoff for a few seconds and then kick back on. It will do this several time and then run fine again. I know in home a/c there is a switch that will not allow the compressor to kick back on for a few minutes to keep from burning the compressor up. Any help needed.
  • Our fan will stop for a few seconds and start back up, but this is when the fan is on automatic and it is just changing fan speeds.
  • Thank for the input. I did'nt thank it was acting right.
  • It shouldn't do that and since it's still in warranty, I'd get it fixed.
  • Make sure you check the VOLTAGE inside the RV with A/C running. If it is below 110 VAC the poor A/C is likely trying not to burn itself out.

Many of us carry autoformes to correct for the low voltage found in many campgrounds, especially on hot days. Mines a Hughes.
  • If it is only a few seconds then it is not the defrost cycle. My compressor would drop off for a split second intermittently and my voltage gauge showed excellent voltage at the campground. This was the 4th campground on a 3 week trip. Back home now and I ran it several day on my hookup and could not duplicate the problem. I have not yet checked for anything laying against the evaporator or loose connections. I do notice that the thermostat variance is 2-3 degrees which is not normal.

Haven't had time to dig into it any further.
  • Most times it will do this as a defrost cycle. It will use the fan to bring in warmer air to stop ice from being built up.
