If your A/C has run more than a season or two, suggest you perform this A/C Cleanup/Tuneup. If you have a Wall Thermostat (usually with Ducted systems), the A/C should have a Freeze Sensor that'll stop it from freezing over. It seems common for them to fall out of position. If your A/C isn't ducted (control knobs on the unit itself) no Freeze Sensor. Best to run the system on the High Cool setting vs. Low Cool. Being sure it's clean and running at High Cool will very likely solve the freezing.
