Airxcel Heatpump model 6535

Question

Have subject heatpump on my 2001 Itasca horizon. When AC is turned on it runs 20-30 seconds and then it surges and the amps run more than 50, the hot water heater circuit breaker flips (even when hot water heater isn't on) and the AC stops. I can flip the breaker AC comes on a few seconds and breaker flips again. Any ideas on what might be occurring and what I can do about it.

1. The Breakers are mislabeled. That is the AC breaker and not the Water Heater breaker.
2. IF the compressor starts and then runs a little before the Breaker trips, odds are you have a defective Compressor. Since the unit is 15 years old that is the most likely reason. If it just surges after that 20 to 30 seconds that is the compressor attempting to start. Likely problems
1. Start capacitor bad or blown
2. limit on compressor burnt wires shorting out
3. Compressor locked
