Allison MH 1000, Workhorse w20 8.1ltr

Question

While driving the hills of WV thia am, the allison downshifted from 4th to 3rd and back to 4th.

The following message displayed on the dashboard where PRNDL is usually displayed and lasted fo 10 minutes before returning to normal display.

Code displayed:
No J1850 Activity

Any idea what this message means and do I need to have it checked?

It's the number for a translator device for the DOC on a 1000 Allison.  Go to the Allison web site and punch in the code, hopefully it will give you additional informationRT

Thanks for the info. I'll call Allison tomorrow.

I could not locate anything definitive on the J1850 code, other than dealing with communications. May have been an electronics brain-fart. Just like explanations for the unusual.
