Something is confusing the ECU on your Toureg (of which I am unfamiliar with). Try feeding the Prodigy brake controller through a rectifier. An old junk rectifier type battery isolator will work fine. Use BOTH rectifiers to minimize voltage drop. Have you VERIFIED that the brake controller consumes 0.0 milliamps when in stasis? If it does not, then it may be time for a SEVENTY amp rated TYCO relay connected to ignition one terminal on the switch. The relay should be fused just like it is now, the seventy amp model TYCO (Bosch) is an absolute guarantee that the relay is not going to fail. No matter what.
That alternator should work for you. It is stupid to design an ECU that has built in glitches. But then car manufacturing engineers are not noted as being candidates for the Mensa Society.
