Carefully
Newer vehicles like Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigators, and luxury SUVs that live in the desert southwest at night with lamps A/C and innumerable other loads going crawl bumper-to-bumper in 110F heat. With 90+ amp loads BUT WAIT the alternators do not charge 90 amps at idle. Do I need to draw this out on a blackboard? The alternators then charge at 100% potential between stops.
And yet they live through that.
So off-the-wall guesses that alternators at full charging potential "can't take that" are unwarranted. I must have a total of 15,000 hours sitting in front of a fifteen horsepower hydraulically driven alternator test bench with thousands of dollars of thermal measurement instruments working.
Some alternators pass more air than others. The ones with an external front fan and steel fins spot-welded to the SRE end of the rotor cool the best. Gyppo lifetime warranty alternators are fortunate if they live 10-minutes.
