One summer, I passed from 100F Los Angeles with 10+ sun exposure warnings, to Hornby Island B.C. Overcast, misty and temps in the high 50's. That made me really careful when it comes to recommending solar or trying to conjure up recipes for energy management. L.A. needed an air conditioner, while B.C. needed a heater and gasoline powered battery charging. While at home winter solstice means 11 hours of daylight, "way up north" can mean a lot less .
