Power supplies have a voltage slump of up to .20 volts between not connected and finished charging voltage.
So if the battery eats more than the charger can supply of course the voltage seen would be much less than what it was set at before connecting
Perfectly fine. Set voltage to 14.40 volts disconnected. Disconnect battery from the circuit then start the music.
Check the battery after a half hour with the palm of your hand. Unequal heating across all cells is a death knell -- cease charging and prepare for disposal.
120F is tops for permitted battery temp. I cannot continue to hold my hand against a 120F object, but it is definitely not a "Ouch! ****!" experience.
No danger of anything bad happening after you do your first and second check for overheating. Not at 14.40 volts.
If voltage fails to rise a minimum of .1 volt per hour with a charger amp hour relationship you noted, the battery is bad.
Heat is a great tattletale. Uneven heating across the battery cells is a dead giveaway. Heat F rising with little voltage gain is another. Music. Amazing Grace.
