Another Amish fix

I have completed the replacement of the cooling unit on our Norcold 1200. And yes, like many I have read about here and else ware; we went through RVCOOLING WAREHOUSE, the AMISH source. AAANND the excellent service provided by David Force. This guy put up with many questions and even answered on Sunday!
Results? 36F in fridge, -5 in freezer; setting of 4 and temp outside at 86F. Also added the inside fan and ARP boiler control unit; all seem to work well. The Amish unit is obviously way superior to the original and I believe we will have many years of awesome service ahead of us.

  • I am one of those that highly recommended the Amish cooling unit on this site in the past. It did work great at first, cooling much better than the original ever did. We did get nearly three years out of our Norcold 1210 but then we had another ammonia leak. Before you wonder about improper installation, ours was installed by the maker, JR in Shipshewana, IN.

This time we elected to go with the residential refrigerator replacement. So far, been almost 6 months, that has been working well for us.

Before you think you have bad seals, take each fridge door and push upward. If they give, then you simply need to install a thick washer on the bottom hinge to provide extra upward push, and that may solve your problem as it did mine.

I have fiddled with the doors in the past. My problem is that the rubber seals are torn.

  • I,D call them and ask. bet they know how to get them.when my frig goes bad I,m going to set up a time and just camp there till its fixed .
  • I will need a replacement fridge soon and am considering this superior cooling unit. The only thing that holds me back is that my seals are shot and have not found a fix aside from new doors.

Has anyone found a replacement or fix for the door seals?
  • for that frig that doesn,t cool the box try a bungee cord across the doors , the doors leak alot ,the gaskets leak and the doors get twisted a bit, I can freeze the milk now.
  • I have read about the product - and the positive reviews.
I guess I'm going to get one for our 18 year old Dometic!!
The box is OK, but the cooling is not so good - Funny, freezer portion is OK (hard Ice Cream), but the fridge portion (it is a 2-door) will not cool.
