Thanks, everyone! I did not get notifications of your posts, so I will try now to answer questions:
I am not talking about stab connectors. I'm talking about the slots in plastic boxes where the wire goes through before it reaches the outlet. Is that clearer?
I did use a few metal boxes, and used the clamps with them. But it's the plastic ones I am worried about.
I am securing the wire along the runs and near the boxes. I appreciate the point about leaving extra!
The extension cords I cut up are outdoor construction cords. I looked them over -- no cracking, etc. I expect they will last longer in the walls than they do outside, and they last a long time out in the weather.
