The Plastic Fingers may... eventually... Damage the wires but I doubt your children will live that long. I'd not worry about it.
However I'd also consider the following
1: you can buy 14ga flexible wire cheaper than chopping up extension cords less you get a bang up deal on the cords. and
2: Romex is commonly used in RVs for point to point non slide out wiring. ONly place they use flex is between non-sliding and sliding parts.
