Hi 2old,
Shore charging with the Magnum hybrid is a dream. With your solar system pumping amps into the battery bank the 4000 watt 24 volt Magnum with load support set on via the remote it would be excellent.
My 3000 watt Magnum hybrid doesn't even break into a sweat when starting the roof air conditioner. The same thing is true for the 1591 watt microwave. If I run from the generator, I can use the eco switch because surge is taken care of by the Magnum. If I'm on 15 amp shore power, I have full use of the items in the RV so long as I don't exceed the 3000 watt limit on the inverter.
Cost for the 4000 watt Magnum at Imarine is around the 1700 mark. You do need the ARC remote to set up load support. ISTR the remote was in the range of $200. There is an automatic start module that can be added for the generator.
The ARC remote also allows you to dial down the shore or generator input amperage. So if you wish to force the inverter to power the RV you could set it to a ridiculously low number such as 5 amps. (I just checked 5 amps is the minimum setting). You could dial in a custom charging voltage lower than the float value on the solar controller so the 5 amps would go towards running the fridge.
The only negative I have come across is that load support is NOT voltage support. I guess one other concern is price.
As I mentioned earlier I've been using 15 amps shore power for four weeks. In the coldest part of the night the demand goes up to 1900 watts--load support kicks in--and then when one of the heaters cycles off the charger refills the battery bank. The ambient temperature last night went down to 24 F. My bedroom was at 68 F. During the day, if I cook on the induction burner the same scenario happens. In fact I have drawn a peak load of 2900 watts. Not a single shore power breaker has popped.
I'm sure the Victron hybrid units would do the same as the Magnum--though possibly at a higher price.

I want to run off inverter as much as possible, supported by shore/gen charging, not switching between the two (aka transfer switch.)
