Any reason not to drill holes to ventilate inverter?

My cheap-azz HF inverter overheats easily when it's out in the open air and nights are freezing. In new van build, I plan to have an actual electrical cabinet. The inverter is going to freak out...

If it's well designed, adding holes could mess with the intended airflow and cause more heat-related problems rather than solving them. Of course, with a Harbor Freight inverter, it's anybody's guess as to how much if any thought went into the thermal design.
