A heating pad is usually around 50 watts.
If your inverter is getting hot making powering just 50 watts, it is likely consuming 90 watts or more to do so.
Test the tripplite, disassemble the HF inverter for the mini screws within which could be handy later.
I'd not put much effort into a whack job inverter that sometimes and sometimes does not function acceptably. It might be a fire risk.
If/when it releases the Magic smoke, well that smell is hard to get rid of even when offending appliance is removed.
