Anyone own a Champion Generator?

For anyone who owns this brand how about a review? I know they are louder than the Honda's, but how about reliability? (That would be my main concern.)
  • I was reseaching the honda/yamaha inverters and I'll tell you for my situation the Champion 3500/4000 is a better deal. Financially it's easy 2k vs 500. So that is my plan for this season is to get the Champion 3500/4000. I've heard that got some decent customer service as well for any issues you might have.
  • I have two 2000i. Click the links that 2oldman provided. I'm sure there are thousands of relevant posts.
  • Have a 3500/4000 and two 2000Is. The 3500 is about five years old and no problems thus far. The 2000Is were manufactured in 2010 and paired together would not run a 15,000 AC unit. Talked with Champion and they paid for shipping to add a mod they needed. They work fine. Anyone having 2000Is paired that will not run the 15K AC should call Champion. Thus far, I am pleased with the three generators. I don't think the 3500 is that loud but wouldn't use in campground.
  • I just noticed in the January 2013, Consumer Reports magazine, that there is a recall on some of the Champions. It says that there have been fuel leaks and some fires on units sold at Costco from December 2011 through July of 2012.

If you have one you're supposed to call 855-236-9424 or championpowerequipment.com for a free repair kit to be installed by an authorized dealer. Or, it says, to return the unit to Costco.
  • I had the 3500/4000, ran great filled my needs, gave to my son and I purchased the 7500/9000 model and it handles my 50 amp 5er very well..auto start and though the Champions are a little louder than the Honda's, Yamahas and so on, "IF" you're not going to be obnoxious with them, and like me only use it when there is a power outage, it is an awesome best bang for the buck gen set to own.
.......If is also no where near as loud as the commercial gen sets that sell for near too nothing. I'd steer clear of these in any campground use, even with power outage...they are very loud. Would easily drown out a Champion.

    LOT'S of reading on them....
  • I had a 3500/4000 and it started on the 2nd pull everytime I used it..It ran my a/c and microwave at the same time in my old tc..The only reason I don't still have it is that my new camper has a buildin...great gen. for the money..
  • Lots of us do, both the larger units like the 3500/4000 as well as the smaller 2000w inverters.
