Hi,
Add a switch to split the bank. Alternate between banks every two days. Turn on the switch when needing every amp you have got when running the microwave.
It is a small expense, and a tiny bit more effort. Gains would (in theory) be a longer lasting battery bank. But banks maintained by solar generally last much longer any way!
I'm an energy hog when I'm in the rv so I need not worry about not using 5%--my biggest worry is getting back to 100% state of charge when I'm down a couple of hundred amp-hours.full_mosey wrote:
You would need to explain how, with no extra effort or expense, I could wait until the 10% DOD. Also, what would I gain in exchange?

Storage would be a situation where bank switching would be extra effort and expense. A snowbird from Winnipeg might have their RV stored in South TX.
With the bank splitting while RV/Camp-ing, I believe all the factors end up as +/- paper cuts, not any remarkable gains or losses either way.
The factors of split banks are deeper discharges of the in-use bank acting against the more fully charged bank. How does that net out on cycle life or total Watts available over a bank's lifetime?
In my case I can't bank-switch. One bank is a single 79AH 12V, the other is 2 x 55AH.
