Are TPMS sensors rugged enough for gentle off-roading?

I am thinking about a TPMS for my single axle trailer -- probably a good idea! But in doing the usual research, it looks to me like the sensors are sort of like little knobs that attach to the valve ...

My TST sensors are plenty tough. However, severely abusing them can break them. For example, about a year into owning my sensors, I had rather longish valve stems and when I ran my tire up against a very high (about a foot high) curb, it sheared off my metal valve stem and broke the sensor. The good news: I emailed TST to inquire about buying a replacement, and instead they sent me a new one for free!
