ARP Refrigerator Fire Safety Device

I installed the ARP fire safety device today on my 1995 Dometic absorption frig. It consists of a circuit board and relay that together shut off the frig if the stack temperature exceeds a certain temperature. The installation was pretty straightforward. The company (www.arprv.com) provides excellent phone customer service. I screwed up and fried a diode. Paul, the owner, fixed it for free and even paid the shipping. Can't beat that! Anyhow, the old absorption unit still cools well and now we can sleep a little better knowing it will shut down rather than catch fire.

  • It sounds like this ARP device does the same thing as the Norcold safety device (with regard to safety).

But, I don't believe either one claims that it will prevent a fire.
  • Yes, ARP gives much more precise control. It actually cuts off cooling if the boiler temperature exceeds a safe level. This can occur very quickly if the refrigerator is operated out of level.

Think of this as PROactive (in terms of preventing cooling system issues) rather than REactive in turning it off if a fire occurs.
  • Hi,

Please let us know how it works for you. Any temperature readings on the boiler yet?
