Take your best shot at guessing where the underground wire is. The 2nd spike can just poke into the ground any old place.

When my mom was rewiring her house, the inspector said she had to pound this huge rod into the ground, for a ground. I think it was 10 feet long or something. Took her all summer. She started out on top of a ladder with her sledge, then a shorter ladder, then a chair... little bit each day.
