I definitely need the less-DIY version than the full Borg (though it looks like a wonderfully fun project), as my life is overwhelmed with other obligations for the foreseeable future, and no time for Tinkering with a capital T. Though you guys would be excellent tutors.

Is there an implication here that my off the shelf 'smart' and semi-dumb chargers won't play well with the ex650? Maybe because they will want to do fancy tapering and waste time?
Post up pics of your battery chargers here, and then if you aren't too overwhelmed, measure their output voltages when plugged in. Also amperage output supposedly capable of.
Ideally, what you are looking for is a power supply unit (PSU), that can make 14.8V or a bit more, and suck no more than 5 amps at 120V from your EX650. I am allowing a bit of margin of error due to HP loss due to you camping at elevations above sea level, for the motor of your EX650.
Your other chargers will probably play just fine with your EX-650, but what they won't play well with is getting your battery charged up pronto, so you listen to noise and waste gas due to the smart chargers voltage being based on unlimited plugged in on the grid 120V power at home. You don't have that luxury on the road with the EX-650, the charge job should be done quick and dirty, and as fully as possible to 90% SOC. A solar panel can bump up the last 10% to 100% SOC.
