No but god decided to occupy the space between your ears with nasty gray colored stuff in the form of an organ. It does something for a living. "Sonny yah gottavbe smarter than the problem" was a golden defining moment in my young life. Find a HAMster forum for your area. These guys are generally top notch craftsmen. Includes deep knee-bends of gray matter. Strike a deal over the internet on a chat forum. This isn't lawn cutting. It only has to be done once. It is worth a 100 mile drive and a six-pack of Corona or whatever. This forum has actual HAMster members who can fill your eyeballs with tips. You do not pot-in a variable rheostat with a soldering gun. It takes a 30-watt pencil tip and eyeball magnification. And YES the pot has been soldered in, correctly. It was easy once my body "complied". I have one more to do when it gets here. But Niner, you do not have a pencil tip iron nor .019" solder nor a 5X articulated arm magnifier. Use noggin to get this minor task finished. It is more than "worth it". It turns the Mega into a genuine fine-tune power supply minus amperage control which you don't need, anyway.
I shall see if SCVJeff can lend me a minor hand here, when and if he ever gets some spare time. Perhaps I'll have everything pulled apart first and some leads soldered on the rheostat before I get there for him to perform the last steps on the circuitd board. And we bought 500 ohm pots, remember?
BTW, I don't know why, but I do have .019 Kester 60/40 rosin solder on a roll.
