I wouldn't worry about bumps on a 10T pot. If I saw one it would go into the trash simply cuz thats a problem looking for a place to start. Theres no reason to find a pot that just squeaks by, especially if you are tracking its output with a DVM. I have SOME 10T pots left, but dunno their size. Will a 2K sweep the range?
1k 10 turn pot more than sweeps the range,
If the 500 ohm pot I have gets me down to 13.4V, minimum then I am good. A 13.2v to 15.5 range is plenty. It's mainly to be used as a bulk charger, for quick and dirty bulk charging of a 158AH AGM Teleco battery I recently picked up, so 30 amps is well on the low side for this battery amperage wise, to not hurt or heat up anything.
Running the MegaWatt off a generator, first thing in the morning, to replenish the battery in bulk mode, on cloudy days. The solar panel will handle all the sunny days in bulk and top charge.
