Attwood Water Heater issue

Hi,

I have a 2015 Kodiak 241rbsl TT.
This is the first time I have tested the HW system, getting ready to take it out for the first time.
I have an Attwood Gas/Electric electronic ignition HW service.
I filled it and flicked the Gas switch to heat it up.
The gas fires and the burner fires and runs for about 10 minutes then goes off. I test the hot water and the first 5 seconds is scalding, then the rest of the water if I keep running the hot faucet is just luke warm. It takes awhile for the burner to reignite.
Any idea what the issue is?
It is a brand new HW system.
Thanks

I don't have one, just a spray jet snap fitting.

Your middle valve needs closed like in old biscuits pic
  • 3 valve system

    Close the middle valve

Cold water is going into water heater via bottom valve but is also going into hot water line via that bypass valve being open.

Water heats up.........you open hot faucet and get really hot water (140*F) and then cold water flows thru bypass valve/line and mixes with the hot coming out of water heater.
Then you get luke warm water cause water flows thru least path of resistance...the bypass vs thru tank
  • Okay, fantastic, I'll do that in the morning and report back. Is this a normal setup? I didn't touch the middle one it was already inline when I opened the panel. What should it look like for winterizing when I put the HW heater in bypass?
    Thanks
  • Simple.....
one way water doesn't go into WH tank
other way water goes in & out of WH tank

    Winterizing.......bypass WH
Open 120V AC circuit breaker for electric element
    Pull fuse from circuit board
    Cold in/hot out valves closed
    Bypass valve open
    Drain WH Tank

(First 2 keep you from accidentally firing an empty water heater...burns out electric element within minutes/can damage tank if propane fired empty)

    Normal...water heater in use
    Cold/hot valves open
    Bypass closed
  • open the top one and open the bottom one and close the one in the middle also check to make sure the propane tanks are full if so close them and bleed the gas from the line by turning on the stove burner then go open the tanks again very slowly and purge the gas line again by starting a stove burner and letting it run for a bit then relight the hot water tank if this does not fix then the thermostat which is attached to the outside of the hot water tank has either come loose or is bad from the factory could also be a bad control board

yes this is a normal set up for winterizing you well close the bottom and top one and open the middle one this will bypass the water heater
  • It looks like you have three valves. For normal use, the middle one (connects to a red pipe and a white pipe) should be closed. Thanks for the pictures.
  • Where that red hot water line and the WHITE cold line meet at that valve---turn THAT valve OFF. It is ON in your pic. Doug
