Fan speed and which gas valve is used are critical
Low fan and high btu gas valve.........Smoking/Sooting (as you are aware)
High fan and low btu gas valve.........Lean/HOT flame (if it lit/stayed lit) overfiring..furnace trip
White wire (6 pin connector on Speed control board----#6 position) is 10V power to motor for Low Speed (RED wire thru the power switch/circuit breaker is fan 12V high speed)
Low but gas valve....Brown wire is power (6 pin connector on speed control board----position #1)
High btu gas valves.....Red wire is power (6 pin connector on IGNITION board----position #4) Only Pins 1,3 & 4 are used
