Atwood 7916 not igniting

I have an Atwood 7916-11 in a JAYCO foldown. My furnace does not ignite at higher elevations, like 8,000 or 8,500 feet but firs up at home or lower elevations. I was in Wyoming and it would not ignite at Encampment but when I moved near Kaycee it worked alright, same battery and LP tank. Last year the same deal. Dealer said it might be due to how full LP tankis. The fan comes on but then it does not ignite. Is there any adjustment for altitude I can make?

  • No there is not an 'adjustment' for the higher altitude........
Problem is air/fuel ratio. Very difficult to supply metered gas flow with a fixed orifice and allow for changes in O2 levels.

At higher altitudes (above 5000') air/fuel ratio becomes 'rich'....the higher the richer the mixture becomes.
Short of changing main orifice out to smaller size there is not much that can be done.

Furnace needs more air to get air/fuel ratio back in balance (or less fuel)
  • You might try giving Atwood a call on Monday at 800-546-8759. They were very helpful when I had a problem with an Atwood appliance.
