It actually is a priority switch. when hooked to a 50 amp circuit, the switch will close the external cable to the coach, if you start the generator, the generator has priority and after a dwell time to allow the generator to come up to speed the switch will close the generator side of the switch connecting the generator to the coach, and at the same time disconnect the external cable.
when you plug in the external power, and shut down the generator, the switch will open the generator side and close the external connection.
there will never be a time when both will be closed.
