Awning Electric Awning Problem

2008 Montana Dometic electric awning problem.
Awning goes down real easy but when I try to roll it in part way up it stalls I have to roll it back down and start over sometimes I have to do this several times to get it to roll completly up.
It acts like its not getting enough power to the motor.
Only one motor on the one end.
Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Is your awning fabric centered on the roller? It could be that it's simply binding when it comes in.
  • A&E power awnings back then were known for poor motors. That has been corrected
  • Thanks for suggestions Im hoping its the tension spring as it goes down easly and going back up i hear motor running but it struggles to roll back up. Will get service man as springs are nothing to monkey with and most need special tool to wind them up.
Will let you know what the problem was.
  • Mine has a torsional spring at the other end to assist the motor just like a garage door.

Maybe spring not adjusted or maybe motor drive going bad..
  • Pull the switch....disconnect wires from switch and then jumper them directly to test if problem is with switch or motor/wiring for retract operation.

If it extends and retracts correctly without switch.....contacts in switch are bad.

IF it still falters without switch then reverse contacts/wiring/motor faulty.
Then you will need to supply 12V power directly to motor to check.
