Axle To Axle Check

Even a long piece of heavy mono-filament fishing line works for this...

  • This takes 2 people
  • Straighten steering wheel (hopefully this means straight ahead travel for your rig)
  • Hold a conference with your friend. You need to define the meaning of exactly where "center" is on the front and rear hubs
  • Then measure exactly center to center front to rear hubs one side
  • Then go around and measure that distance on the other side
  • You can also do this on a multiple axle travel trailer.
  • Not a good idea to use mono-filament. It will stretch when pulled tight and not be accurate. We always used thin bare wire for that purpose. The wire must be flexible enough to pull out any curls.
