I know that I can, and do, use my home generator by plugging the two outlets from the genny into house outlets that are powered by different busbars in the breaker box, (after shutting off the master)...

That's one of the issues you encounter when plugging your shorepower cord into an inverter as it delivers power to every AC circuit in your rig. You could wire up a subpanel to feed specific outlets or connect inverter to battery and run a single cord directly to appliance you want to run.
