In theory your idea would work if you turned off the breaker that powers the converter to keep it from making a loop. In a practical sense, the cig lighters are only rated for 10 amps at 12V, for a total of 120 watts. If you try to pull more than that it will toast the 12v fuse protecting the cig outlet. I had a 150W inverter that I used with that cig outlet and got constant low voltage alarms from it just trying to power a 70W TV set. Also, if you have just one battery, it will die long before you get where you are going.
