While a tenth volt doesn't look like much, you need to look at the entire math involved. voltage*amps = watts; if you have 0.1 volt times 10 amps that is a 1 watt unbalance between the batteries whether it is charge or discharge. While it doesn't sound like a lot over time it will translate into a possible early battery failure because of the accumulative affects to the battery chemistry.
For a cheap battery not such a big deal but if your talking high end L-16's it is.
The question is the voltage difference due to connection resulting in heat loss or just slightly longer wire.
